Royal recognition for HARP!
Southend’s Homeless Action Resource Project
(HARP) has received The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
News of the prestigious honour was announced
by Her Majesty the Queen today (Friday 1st June) to coincide
with her Diamond Jubilee celebrations. Staff and volunteers
at HARP were overjoyed to learn the accolade was being
bestowed upon them especially as they were also celebrating
their 10th year of operating services in the

24 Hour Relay Challenge
place on the weekend of 23rd/24th June.
Everyone did very well but notable performances were from
Derran Peters who completed 87.7 miles and Gil John who
completed 75 miles. Notable team performances were from
Essex Boot Camp and the Hood Group.
The event raised in the region of
Accommodation and Training Centre
is an exciting new venture
coming to an area of great need. It will provide a unique
service aimed at breaking the cycle of homelessness in the
area by offering advice, support, accommodation and training
to enable people to rebuild their lives in the community.
will house two separate services. A new discreet 18 bed
hostel unit in one part and a Day Centre with medical
facilities and training rooms accessible to the Community in
the other part.
